Students from the Bering Strait School District made a name for themselves at the 2023 Educators Rising National Conference and Competition, which took place in sunny Orlando, Florida from June 29 to July 2, 2023.

Representing the unique and culturally rich communities of the Bering Strait region, these aspiring educators proved that distance and circumstance are no barriers to success. With a total of fifteen participants from the district, this remarkable achievement is a testament to the perseverance and dedication of both the students and their supportive teachers, as well as the support from the Bering Strait School District.

Hailing from different schools within the district, Stebbins sent a total of five representatives, while St. Michael, Unalakleet, and White Mountain were represented by four, four, and two students respectively.

Among the standout achievers was Grace, a student from Unalakleet School, who secured an impressive third-place finish in the Lesson Planning and Delivery - Arts category.

Blaine, a student from Tukurngailnguq School in Stebbins, Alaska, captured fourth place in the Public Speaking Junior Varsity category.

Natalie, also from Tukurngailnguq School, proudly earned fourth place in the Children's Literature K-3 category.

Thekla, a participant from Unalakleet School, secured fifth place in the Lesson Planning and Delivery - Arts category.

The success of these students would not have been possible without the guidance and mentorship of their dedicated teacher leaders. Sisa Paje from Stebbins, Rhoda Tumanda from St. Michael, Jamie Katchatag from Unalakleet (who stepped in for Gianna Peterson), and Joanne Wassillie from White Mountain provided unwavering support and guidance, helping the students navigate the challenges of the competition.

The Educators Rising National Conference and Competition serves as an inspiring platform for young educators to hone their skills and connect with peers from across the nation. This achievement not only celebrates the talent and determination of these students but also highlights the transformative power of education in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
