Bering Strait Teachers Examine Changing Landscape

“Changing Landscapes” was the theme of a recent REACH Up workshop for Bering Strait School District Educators. Sponsored by the UAF Outreach, REACH Up (Raising Educational Achievement through Cultural Heritage) provides teacher professional development and instructional support including workshops and REACH Up university course with credit and site visits by project staff, scientists, elders and other Cultural Knowledge Bearers.

Stebbins Takes First Place in Middle School Battle of the Books Competition

In a suspense-filled, sudden-death overtime, Stebbins Middle School Team 2 won first place at the District level Battle of the Books! Seventh graders Jeri Dan and Leo Mike went head-to-head with Koyuk’s middle school team for three rounds in a nail-biting throw down and won!

Unalakleet Spelling Bee

We held our Unalakleet Spelling Bee Monday Jan. 23.  We had ten students compete, with a robust audience present!  The competition was stiff, and the you could hear a pin drop in the room.  Raucous applause erupted in the room as we found our school champion, 4th grader Doreen Cooper.  Runner up was fellow 4th grader, Lily Lausten-Katongan.
